How accurate are the results?

Detection is based on public network intelligence. Most commercial VPNs and proxies are identified, but no tool is perfect — there can be false positives, and private servers may go unflagged.

How are proxies identified?

Addresses are matched against continually updated lists of public proxies and anonymising services. Because those lists refresh on a schedule, very new proxies may not be listed yet.

Can private proxies be detected?

Not directly. Private proxies are not in public lists. However, if they are hosted in a datacenter the address is still flagged as a hosting/VPN range.

How are VPNs detected?

An address is flagged when it belongs to a datacenter or hosting provider, appears on proxy lists, or is a published Tor exit node — all signals that traffic is passing through an intermediary rather than a home connection.
